karl wheeler & kathy escobar are copastors of the refuge, a faith community in north denver dedicated to authentic community, the marginalized & hurting, and those longing to experience deeper intimacy with God & others. we have extensive ministry experience as pastors, speakers, and spiritual directors, but the credentials that matter are our hearts, broken by pain and struggle. we have experienced continual healing in our own lives, and a strong belief that change is actually possible with the help of God & safe community.

what is different about us?
we love diversity and the importance of shared perspectives in counseling. we bring two voices, two perspectives, two different life experiences. this can be so helpful and can provide a level of safety that many have not previously experienced in counseling.
we believe in the power of community, one professional with one client, locked in a room for 50 minutes a week may not be enough. we have ways to connect individuals to communities of people who will stand alongside to encourage & challenge.
we are creative. we use a combination of experiential exercises, Biblical application, and lots of practice!
we love to laugh. we think laughter is a necessity; otherwise, the healing journey is just too hard.
we do not have a lot of hangups about money, but our time is very valuable, especially when we are serving people outside of the refuge community. to honor our time, we ask those who are not part of the refuge to make a donation to the ministry. we also have some suggested donations for workshops, retreats, and church services.
we network with other professional counselors in the denver area and are always happy to provide a referral if you need to find a good, solid therapist instead
