buy a power strip: 25% of your energy bill comes from phantom power. by turning off the strip at night you can save this 25% in cost and energy.
buy energy star appliances. most of these really do conserve energy. it’s worth the research and the extra money.
replace conventional light-bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs: if you switched one bulb it would be the equivalent of taking 1 million cars off the road. imagine if you switched them all! plus you’ll save about $50/bulb in energy costs.
recycle!!! whether you pay for it through your trash service or if you can take it to your city recycling center this is an easy one.
don’t forget about your plastic bags!! many of us already try to reuse these as trash bags, etc. but an even better thing to do is to recycle these through a service or many grocery stores have bins you can bring your old bags to. also, try not using them at all! invest in some cloth, re-usable bags - many grocery stores give a small discount per bag that you use. often grocery stores will have these bags for sale.
share rides. take the bus. walk. do anything to cut down on gas & energy waste.
