The Refuge Cafe is a cornerstone effort of the Refuge, dedicated to empowerment through healing community for people who are experiencing homelessness and without social safety nets. Founded in 2013, the Cafe is a nourishing, safe and restful collective space where people across a wide range of realities can find connection and support. Our on-site team includes social worker interns, health care advocates, volunteer and staff advocates, local community partners to help break down barriers to resources.

We offer free lunch, showers, grab and go snacks, WIFI and water every day we're open, along with a variety of other resources depending on availability:

  • Personal care items

  • Cleaning Supplies

  • Cold weather gear

  • Pet food

  • Gas cards for crucial appointments

  • Bus passes

  • Thrift store vouchers

Our on-site advocates and staff also help guests in need navigate local resources and complete important tasks like:

  • Obtaining birth certificates, social security cards and ID's

  • Filling out applications for jobs or financial assistance.

  • Receiving support from mental health professionals.

  • Finding a safe place to park (for those sleeping in their vehicles).

  • Connecting with appropriate local and regional agencies.

Also, please check out our Amazon Wish List for items you can have mailed directly to us.

  • Volunteers --- We have a great team, but we’re always looking to expand our capacity via new volunteers or volunteer groups who resonate with our Refuge ethos! If you’re interested, please message us.

  • Partnerships --- Feel free to stop by for a tour and a bite to eat or email us if you have ideas about business or other partnerships, meeting special needs or creatively addressing the needs of our wider community.

Severe Weather Activation Plan

The Refuge Cafe is a close partner of the new Severe Weather Activation Plan (SWAP) for Broomfield and Adams counties. SWAP provides hotel vouchers for our neighbors experiencing homelessness during severe cold weather.  Anyone interested in signing up for activation alerts should visit Almost Home's site. SWAP is the successor to the Broomfield Code Blue program that the Refuge helped oversee from 2019-2022.
